Useful information

What to know before sending your photos

Most correctional facilities require that an incarcerated loved one’s name and ID number be printed on the back of each photo. When you use Pelipost inmate photo services, you don’t have to worry about this. We do all the heavy lifting!
We print your loved one’s NAME and DOC number on the back of every photo to ensure compliance with facility rules.

Mailing address requirements

Sending mail to an incarcerated loved one is more complicated than popping a letter in the mail to someone down the street. Some steps you can take to ensure your letter arrives with your loved one is to include as many details as possible, which include:

  • DIV number
  • Yard number
  • Cell number
  • Bunk number

Of course, you’ll also want to ensure your inmate’s mailing address matches the inmate ID#. You can find this information through the links on the Find Inmate ID page. If you’re having trouble finding this information, please reach out to us. We’re happy to assist you!

What to expect when sending mail to prison

Sometimes the mail process in prisons is disorganized, even more so during COVID-19. Information on a correctional facility’s website might be outdated, so it’s worth taking the extra step to double-check the details for your loved one’s facility by giving the facility a call.

If you get to enjoy face-to-face visits or phone calls, your best bet is to ask your incarcerated loved one directly. They’ll have the most accurate information for you.

The details become so important when it comes to timely mail delivery, especially in a system that is often slow and inconsistent.

All about shipping

So you’ve placed your order, now what?

Shipping cost varies by print size and product.

Orders from Pelipost arrive faster than our competition. The fulfillment team begins processing, printing, and shipping most orders within 1-2 business days.

Once shipped, orders typically arrive within 5-7 business days. Please allow 2-3 days processing time for prison inspection.

Most facilities DO NOT process mail during the weekends or holidays.

Returned mail policy

What happens if you send photos to prison and they are returned?

Never fear! We’ve got you covered.

If your photos are returned, they’ll most likely be mailed directly to Pelipost unless the facility requires your personal address. Once the images arrive back at Pelipost — a process that can take weeks — our team will update the status of your order to “returned.”

In most cases, your incarcerated loved one will be informed of the reason for the return. If not, please submit an inquiry to learn why the photos weren’t accepted.

The most common causes for a returned package are:

  • The name doesn’t match the inmate ID #.
  • Your incarcerated loved one has been moved or is no longer in custody.
  • The photos violate a policy at the correctional facility.
  • The address was entered incorrectly.

In the above scenarios, we are unable to issue a refund for your order.

You can, however, modify and resend the order for a $1.99 reprocessing fee. If the photos contain prohibited content, we can remove the prohibited images. The reprocessing fee includes the cost of shipping and handling.

Privacy protection

Pelipost processes and prints all photos in-house. This means that your images remain private and secure until they arrive at the facility. Once the photos reach the facility, they will be screened and inspected by prison staff.

Always check with the institution’s specific policies regarding what is and isn’t allowed in photographs. If you have any questions about pricing, facility policies, or anything else, please reach out to our Customer Support Team.

We have an award-winning staff ready to assist you!
